Key Features
Enjoy the full Membership benefits or our Society.
With over 700 members in the UK and worldwide, our Overseas Members are mainly from Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the United States, reflecting the stories of families who have left the Scottish Borders. All part of a community of like-minded people, keen to communicate, learn more and confirm their Family’s history. Key benefits of taking out a Membership with the Borders Family History society are:
- Research – Visit our Galashiels Research Centre to access varied genealogy resourses, our extensive library and our own BordersFHS records, guided by our Research Team
- Discounts on our Research Service - our friendly, dedicated and experienced volunteers can support and guide you in your Research. Members get a 25% discount.
- Discounts on Publications – we offer discounts on many publications, including some that are unique to the Society e.g. Monumental Inscriptions. Members get a 10% discount.
- Magazine – A popular 40-page plus magazine produced three times annually, every February, June and October. It contains very readable in-depth articles about family history and local history relating to the Scottish Borders, and to its links worldwide, particularly to the Scottish diaspora. It also contains news about local events.
- Members Interests – When you join you can register and share your Interests securely with other members. Names, places and dates are exclusively available to members via the Members Area. Make contact directly with like-minded people who are interested in the same family as you are.
- Archive - Access to the BFHS extensive document Archive and Research Centre at our office in Galashiels
- Volunteering – If you have experience with indexing, digitisation or administration why not become a volunteer. You can help us in the research room or work remotely from home. Training can be given should it be required.
You are strongly encouraged to Join, or Renew your membership, paying via the website, however you can also pay in other ways. If you would prefer to pay using another method of payment, please contact the Membership Secretary via the Contact Us page.
