Looking for help with your Family History research?  

We provide a research service to find your ancestors, their families and discover more about their lives in the Scottish Borders and beyond.   Are you looking to build your family tree, or need some additional information on one of your ancestors or trying to break through a brick wall? Send your query, large or small, to our Research Team using the form on our Contacts Page. 

The team will contact you to discuss your requirements.

Members receive a discount on the fees for this service. 

OUR HISTORY

Borders Family History Society, established in 1985 by a small group of enthusiastic genealogists who were keen to share and promote their interest in Family History.

The Society has been a registered charity in Scotland since 1986. As a member of the Scottish Association of Family History Societies, we enjoy working with other Societies around Scotland and have collaborated with the Scottish Borders Archive in Hawick on several projects.

Volunteering for the Society

The Society is run by a team of volunteers.

Members of the management team are appointed by the Society members at each Annual General Meeting and include a Chairman, Depute Chairman, Honorary Treasurer, Honorary Editor, Honorary Secretary. Other roles within the team include Membership secretary and Research convenor.

Our Projects

  • Recording and photographing gravestones around the Borders
  • Indexing of Poor Law records
  • Researching records for people who lived and worked in the Borders
  • Indexing Police & Criminal Arrest records.

THE LIBRARY

Visit our Research rooms to take advantage of a wide range of family and local history resources.

There is no charge for the use of our Research Centre but any small donation would be much appreciated. Check our opening times before you travel. You may also make an appointment for yourself or your family on other days which may be more suitable.

BordersFHS is pleased to be an Affiliate Library of FamilySearch. Visitors to our Research Centre may access the excellent online resourses of FamilySearch.
